The research found that during the shift to remote work accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, employees placed a higher value on identity leadership behaviors from supervisors. This leadership style, which fosters a sense of shared identity and belonging within the team, proved essential in mitigating the negative impacts of remote work. Specifically, identity leadership helped maintain team connectedness and positively influenced various work-related outcomes, including increased work engagement, higher job satisfaction, reduced work stress, and lower absenteeism (Shie et al., 2024).
