Why Should I Care? "Unlocking Future Work: Exploring How Tech Developers Think"

 In their study, researchers delved into how technology developers at a major research center for architecture, engineering, and construction view their work. They found that while these developers consider aspects like user involvement during the design process, they often overlook how their creations will shape future work. By interviewing 32 developers over 1.5 years, the researchers identified four key dimensions of their design mindsets: what they focus on, how much they think about users, the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, and their envisioned impact. Surprisingly, those who identified with multiple disciplines tended to have a more comprehensive and forward-thinking approach to their work, highlighting a potential avenue for improving how technology development considers future work implications (Kahlert & Grote, 2022).
