Do recovery experiences in the evening impact employees' productivity the next morning?

Image
This research studied how employees' moods change throughout the workday and how their evening recovery activities affect these mood changes. The study involved 124 employees who filled out surveys over two workweeks. The findings showed that employees generally feel less awake in a predictable pattern, become calmer in another pattern, but their overall happiness doesn't follow a specific pattern during the day. Evening activities like mentally switching off from work, relaxing, learning new things, and having control over activities were found to influence how well they sleep and how they feel at the start of the next workday. These evening activities help employees start the day feeling more awake, calm, and pleasant. However, the positive effects of these evening activities on their mood tend to fade as the workday progresses. #EmployeeWellbeing #WorkLifeBalance #MoodManagement #MentalHealth #WorkplaceResearch

Leading from Afar: Strengthening Team Bonds through Identity Leadership in Remote Work

Image
The research found that during the shift to remote work accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, employees placed a higher value on identity leadership behaviors from supervisors. This leadership style, which fosters a sense of shared identity and belonging within the team, proved essential in mitigating the negative impacts of remote work. Specifically, identity leadership helped maintain team connectedness and positively influenced various work-related outcomes, including increased work engagement, higher job satisfaction, reduced work stress, and lower absenteeism (Shie et al., 2024).
